Thriver Testimonials
How has 412Thrive made a difference in your life?

I would like to give a very big thank you to 412Thrive! The amount of love and support shown in this group is beyond measure. I was diagnosed at 27 years old with metastatic breast cancer, and was very mentally lost when I found out what was happening to me. Shortly after that, I found out about 412Thrive. As soon as I joined the group, I felt nothing but welcoming energy and warm hearts. These ladies are wonderful! We all know that we share something otherworldly, chaotic and draining, but no matter what time of day or night support is always there. I love going to the 412Thrive events and also making new friends to hangout with on ordinary days. The events, fundraisers, movie nights, dinners, phone calls, etc, all have created a sense of home and family. I am forever grateful.
Beyond mental support and the good times we all have together, it is comforting to know that these ladies are going through and have been through the same thing as me! I can post a medical question on the page or send a text and I immediately get responses. I have learned so much through my cancer peers in 412Thrive. 412Thrive also has provided me with my mastectomy care package! When I received it, I had no idea I would need some of the things that were included. With the care package delivered to me prior to surgery, it made the process so much more calming knowing that I would be prepared. I feel so incredibly blessed. 412Thrive has a made a huge impact on my life, and I couldn't ask for a better sisterhood!

412Thrive has had a huge impact on my life. Just learning that you’re not alone on this journey is heart warming. I’ve also met some amazing people that I can call friends.

Being diagnosed at a younger age and a mother to toddlers was terrifying. I was scared, felt lost, and had so many questions. This was a group I could ask questions to other women who have been through the same thing . They provided me with care packages for my chemo and mastectomy, all with great item that really helped me through those processes. They also sent a cleaning company after my surgery. This organization has helped me mentally and physically through a time when I really needed it.

I have only been a member for four months, but feel like some of these women are my family. The love and support given and received is at times overwhelming, knowing someone has been on this journey before you and understands is priceless. Because it is a small group it feels more safe and personal. I have not found another support group that compares.

I met Samantha thru a friend who had another breast cancer group. This was after my treatment. Although I have not been able to attend an in-person event I love that these are offered. I just recently met with my nurse navigator (just a follow up) to volunteer some of my time and give back! I love local organizations and what Samantha is doing to help woman is nothing short of amazing!! ❤️

Being diagnosed with breast cancer young is terrifying. This group has given me strength, support, and so much love. This group made such a lonely and isolating experience feel so full of love. It provides a sense of community for us thrivers. The care package I got for my surgery and radiation was so helpful. It included things I never would’ve known I needed. I still use a lot of those items to this day. I am so grateful for this group!

I had a double mastectomy in February and had no idea what I needed to make recovery easier. The care packages are amazing and so valuable to anyone going through this process. Not only from a medical recovery standpoint but also emotionally. The online group support is wonderful, knowing you can vent there, look for advice or just read other women’s stories.
Amanda s.
The chemo package included many personal items that were needed to go thru chemotherapy. Items that only someone who has gone thru cancer would know that was needed. The biggest difference is the support of other breast cancer thrivers to get you thru the good and bad days.

412Thrive has allowed me to connect with other women going through similar journeys, and has helped me find a support network and form some amazing friendships. The events are always amazing and I love spending time with these women. The events and the Facebook group are safe spaces for us to vent, ask for advice, cry, and they are also great distractions for your mind while you go through treatment and/or recovery. I absolutely love 412Thrive!!

Personalized support! So many times I have received emotional and financial support! 412 Thrive helps me be a Thriver in life! Thank you so much!!

I was in treatment when these 2 amazing ladies reaches out to me. They were starting a support group for cancer patients at all stages and asked if I was interested. Lucky for me. I said yes. Their support helped me so much. Support packages, events, they helped by checking on me to make sure I was ok. They answered questions. I quite literally couldn't have done this without their support.

Absolutely! 412Thrive has gone above and beyond to help me in my breast cancer journey. From providing cleaning services, rides to and a buddy at chemo, dropping off meals and a surgery recovery package, so many things that have helped tremendously! They have created such an amazing network of caring, supportive thrivers who feel like family. They host great events where life long friendships are made. I'm so glad I found this tribe! They have showed up in ways I never could have imagined. Candlelight vigils, car parades, as dancing unicorns, drive by hugs and always just a text away.

412Thrive has given me support through my cancer survivorship. I received a care packages that took care of all of my needs for after surgery. It truly helped it so many ways from showering which can very very difficult after surgery. The care packages not only include things you need to help you through surgery but also include little touches that just bring a smile to our face. This group is truly a life saver for us.

Such a great supportive group of women who know what life is like being a breast cancer survivor.

No one really “gets it “ except my pink sisters . Very encouraging.

I am very newly diagnosed, but a friend’s immediate reaction to my diagnosis was to invite me into this Facebook group, as she is a member herself. I am already amazed at the amount of information, caring and support available. I am also impressed with the inclusivity of the group, as it supports those from pre-vivor and beyond.

412Thrive has contributed to my overall healthcare - both physical AND mental. I joined Thrive after my journey with breast cancer in 2013 and found the whole organization and it’s members so helpful, be it thru Facebook posts and comments. Little did I know, I would be rediagnosed just recently. What overwhelming support I received! Prior to my surgery to remove a cancerous mass and a mastectomy I received a care package, complete with pillows, a robe with drain pockets (my fav!) slippers, snacks, and more items than I can list. All I can say is thank God for Samantha and 412Thrive!

Since diagnosis, 412Thrive has been one of my biggest supports. After a quick search I found the group on Facebook. Instantly I felt accepted and like I belonged. I was able to get questions answered by women who have been there- no question seemed silly or irrelevant.
When treatment began, I was gifted a chemo care package which contained essential items (I didn't even know I would need). Members of 412Thrive checked in on me daily and provided advice and genuine concern.
I was also out of work due to treatment which meant paychecks stopped. Having a husband who worked tirelessly overnight and as a mother of two young boys, I was worried about how to continue to provide for them. 412Thrive understood this concern and helped with a very generous grocery gift card.
Perhaps the most beneficial aspect of 412Thrive is the member events. Being surrounded by women who have been there creates a sense of family like no other. Theses events are not only educational but also a huge aspect to the mental health of the Thrivers.
Misty Copeland said, "Anything is possible when you have the right people to support you". This is especially true to thrive from cancer. 412Thrive are those people.

My radiation care package was the perfect thing to build my confidence and feel ready for my last leg of treatment. It had all of the necessities to make it as comfortable as possible. The thrivers supported me through my first radiation treatment and were cheerleaders, rooting me on! A community of people who know what you are going through is so important for cancer patients mental health. Having peers who have walked the path you are walking to look up to and ask questions is critical to taking charge of your diagnosis. I just wish I would've found them at the beginning of my journey!

Connection with others in similar situations is wonderful. I feel like I can ask any question & get back answers from people who have been there.

When presented with earth-shattering news of a cancer diagnosis, my first thought was that no one else knew what I was going through. Thankfully I didn’t have to look too far to find a saving grace like 412Thrive and a community of many others who are affected by this disease. The importance of a support group and a community made all the difference in my recovery from breast cancer. I was finally no longer alone and presented with more than enough support, love, and kindness. I found moments of joy even during the toughest part of my life thanks to 412Thrive and its many amazing members.

When I was going through cancer a second time, 412Thrive not only provided me with a carepackage but also celebrated my finish of treatment with a carepackage/celebration as well. In addition they send out birthday cards with a gift card to your favorite coffee shop. They support the local community and have been there for all of us going through this terrible disease. Sam is always willing to check up on you and is the first to lend her ear when you need to vent. She has provided a safe place on the facebook group to share your fear, joys, and vent about having cancer. The pittsburgh area is lucky to have such a support group.

I became part of the Thrivers group after my double mastectomy, and I wish I had had them when I went through all of that!! What has helped me immensely is the bond we share as women, as survivors/Thrivers. I feel unconditionally supported always. The anxiety that comes with remission and the fear of cancer returning is hard to explain to anyone who hasn’t experienced a cancer diagnosis, and this group understands. I am constantly inspired by the women I meet at Thrivers meet ups. It also feels good to be there to support others going through diagnosis, treatment, remission, etc. I am so thankful to have met Sam and everyone else along the way. 412Thrive is essential to the breast cancer/genetic mutation community.

I am newer to this group. I attended my first Thriver event on June 22nd. It was with Plastic Surgeon Dr. Ruane and Physical Therapist Ashley Whitehead. This was an incredible informative and supportive event for me. I am so happy I attended. I left feeling some hope and optimism that I have some opportunities to feel better and look better. I had not felt this was previously, due to lack of support from some of my current medical team. Sadly not all doctors understand or take my concerns seriously. I have already worked with Ashley to find a local, recommended Physical Therapist in my area. I will be also contacting Dr. Ruane once my port comes out. With out this event and the members of the group, I think I would be stuck in the same frustrating spot. The Facebook group is such a comfortable place to just ask for recommendations, discuss the embarrassing, or find people that get it! Although my family and friends try to be supportive. They can not possible understand. Thank you!

I signed up on Facebook to join the 412 Thrive group. 2 weeks later Samantha reached out to me with a phone call. While on the phone she asked if she could do anything for me? I said could you just Pray , I am having a Double Mastectomy with Implants in a week! First thing out of her mouth was please sign up for a care package! I was like what! She said it was free and She would drop it off to me. Well I went on Facebook and signed up for a care package. Within 4 days a Very LARGE Care package was dropped off. I could not believe my eyes, I started to cry! I was SO BLESSED with the care package. Never knew I would need a shower chair and the Wedge set to help me sleep comfortable after the Major surgery. The lap pillow ( that help you be comfortable walking around or sitting in a chair or car) was hand sewn by someone and that made it very comforting 💕 There was snacks, lip balm, dry hairsprayVery comfortable PJS and a Mastectomy bra. I was OVERWHELMED with the care package. From the big things you need to the small personal touches. After receiving this package I felt I was ready for this Major Surgery. Being able to be part of this group is Amazing ❤️ They are there if you need anything! I was so BLESSED that before my Surgery I met with Samantha and gave her a donation so she could Bless other women with what I received. Going through Cancer, Radiation and DMX surgery you feel like you matter and you are NOT ALONE❤️❤️

There is something really special about a community of women who understand the challenges, joys, and rollercoaster ride that is breast cancer and survivorship. This community has helped me find some normalcy when everything in life seems anything but normal.

I am a breast cancer survivor! I was diagnosed 2018 and completed treatment October 2019. One wants to believe when you ring the bell, it's over!! Not true- As you wish your free and healed. The anxiety of every single Drs apt and future mammogram become more fearful than your original diagnostic news. Or facing the unknown of possible reoccurance never fades. I joined so many support groups but I tell you today, I am connected daily to 412 Thrive, the daily support the Facebook group gives is phenomenal. They support everyday in everyway if it's an encouraging word or they are packing up a gift bag to give to one that was just diagnosed We never think or expect the long-term support that one will require after ringing that 🔔 one where 412 Thrive picks us up after the treatment! I don't think I honestly would be where I am without this organization who continues to gives unconditional support......,! Even though, the Drs we don't see as much as use too, our support system is there to pick up a day of fear or Anxiety !! Thank you 412 for holding me up on days I think I am falling!!

412Thrive is a fantastic space for all breast cancer survivors/previvors/thrivers. The social events are the only 'cancer event' that do not feel 'cancery.' I was anxious to attend because I am 13 years out from diagnosis and thought I may not 'relate' to other members and I was so wrong! There are such a wide range of people and everyone is able to relate over cancer in a positive, hopeful, and noramized way.

It has had a tremendous impact. During the summer I have a floating support group, but otherwise I have nobody to vent to, or to hang out with, who understands the unique journey of survivorship. The social events are a great resource. The friendships I have made are priceless and impossible to define. I have been fortunate not to have to use the care packages but I’m sure that they are a great source of comfort to those who receive them.

This wonderful group offers support on so many levels. My life has been enriched by being in this group - so emotionally supportive and I hadn;t found that in other groups. This group feels like family. We share openly about the breast cancer road we have all travelled, we gather to enjoy each other's success and company. This group has helped me heal.

Before 412Thrive I didn’t have a community of support. Since joining 412Thrive I have lasting friendships. Bring a thriver enables me to be among my peers who understand the obstacles and challenges I face. The support provided by fellow thrivers carries me thru my darkest days. I have received a care package that helped me during my surgery recovery

412Thrive was founded after I had been through chemo and multiple reconstruction surgeries, but I was still reeling from the aftereffects. The friendships I have formed with fellow Thrivers are invaluable to my sanity and I feel I have helped others going through the same things I have been through. The events give me a chance to build more and deeper relationships with Thrivers. The Thrivers private Facebook group is the perfect place to interact with others, ask questions, and support one-another. Thank you for giving me a better quality of life, 412Thrive!

I developed a kinship of some sort a bonded sisterhood community that I feel safe to divulge my thoughts, emotions with others who feel the same.

Upon my very surprising diagnosis of breast cancer, 412THRIVE was part of how I learned to navigate thru this disease via FB and IG posts. Then literally 5 days after my mastectomy Samantha showed up at my door with a care package to help me with recovery and healing. Everything that was included, you could tell was perfectly chosen for what would be needed. The care packages are also categorized by how you fill out a form pertaining to your diagnosis and treatment plan only. This allows for exactly what you need. So since I fortunately didn’t need chemo then I didn’t receive specifics that would help someone going through chemo. Just this little extra touch takes a lot of thought and it helps to avoid wasting a product one someone who may not necessarily need it,. 412THRIVE is a Godsend.

Survivorship is hard and 412Thrive makes it fun. I go to every Thrivers event. It’s so helpful to be with people who understand what you are going through at each stage. 412Thrive has gotten me anything that I needed for surgery and my recovery. I have received a meal and a gift card for my birthday. They go above and beyond to support each person. I am so appreciative of what they do for me and others.

On this chilly December day, the door bell rang. Surprised, when I opened the door, I could only see a huge bag moving on the porch. Then, from behind the bag was a woman with a basket and a warm smile. She said she was here dropping off donated items from 412Thrive for my surgery tomorrow.
As a cancer widow, I have tried to be strong emotionally these past few months after diagnosis having my breast cancer return (20 years cancer free) but the sight of this stranger, delivering much needed items to me prior to my mastectomy tomorrow, brought immediate tears to my eyes.
To me, a warm and loving feeling was felt overy my entire being, realizing a complete stranger and this organization has taken precious time of their own and offer kinship to me, and others, letting them know that they are not alone alone in their cancer journey.
I thank you deeply for your support and I hope to share this feeling with others in their cancer journey as well.
