412Thrive is always seeking resources for Thrivers.  Here are some resources for breast cancer thrivers to consider. Some resources may only be available to those in the Southwestern Pennsylvania area. Please email us at 412Thrive@412Thrive.org if you would like to let us know about additional resources or if you'd like us to add your organization.

Medical Equipment

Limited Mobility Ministry Southwestern Presbyterian Church: Wheelchairs (handles, on wheels), transfer chairs, rollaters, walkers, canes, crushers, potty chairs and frames, toilet seat risers, tub chairs, and shower transfer benches. They also accept donations. 

We are unable to give or accept any equipment that requires batteries or electricity. We also do not give or accept items that are worn on the body (bandages, compression sleeves, braces, etc.) or any item that delivers medication (intravenous supplies, nebulizers, etc.) We do not accept mattresses or bed frames.

Wigs, Headwear, & Cold Capping

  • Allegheny Health Network's Cancer Institute: Allegheny Health Network's Cancer Institute is offering free wigs for cancer patients experiencing hair loss. Using their virtual wig salon, patients can be fitted during a Zoom session without ever leaving their homes. The program is open to both AHN and non-AHN patients. You can schedule an appointment via email. Send an email to outpatientvolunteer@ahn.org including your name, phone number and color and length of wig you’d like, or say that you would like help picking a wig.

  • Hair Peace Charities: Helps women and girls in the Western Pennsylvania area with financial assistance to purchase a wig. They also offer resources and support group.

  • HairToStay - We are the first and only national nonprofit organization dedicated to helping low-income cancer patients afford scalp cooling, a treatment that can dramatically reduce chemotherapy induced hair loss

Prosthetics

  • K & J's Complete Woman: Offers a variety of mastectomy bras, breast forms, circulatory care, and wigs. They work with a variety of insurance companies and Hair Peace Charities.

  • Cancer Bridges: Offers free programs, workshops, and services.

  • Pink Steel (Steel City Dragons) - A dragon boat team with support activities for breast cancer survivors. Pink Steel is part of the Steel City Dragons organization and offers camaraderie,  joy, and a unique team experience on our rivers.

  • Pittsburgh Hearts of Steel is a non-profit breast cancer organization in Pittsburgh PA that spreads awareness through the sport of Dragon Boat Paddling. We embrace all members no matter what activities you chose to participate in.  Hearts of Steel is hosted by Three Rivers Rowing Association (TRRA).
